(Olympia, WA) – A free prescription drug discount card being rolled out in states across the country has saved residents of Washington state $2.6 million, the company that distributes the cards announced Tuesday.

The Washington Drug Card, launched in August 2008 by United Networks of America, is designed to assist uninsured and underinsured residents pay for their medications.

"Washington Drug Card has helped many residents get the medications that they so desperately need," Washington Drug Card program development director Eric Brown said in a statement. "We will continue our efforts to create awareness for them program and to establish new card distribution sites so that all residents will have access to this program."
